Woody Guthrie Centenary Tribute No. 6
Old Crow Medicine Show 'Union Maid'
From OCMS's Big Iron World (2006). The 'new' bluegrass gang from Nashville breeze through Woody's song of defiance in the face of corporate greed with a whole lot of joie de vivre. I recall upsetting a female pal from the Labour Party back in the 80's when I sang this one myself - she took exception to Woody's final verse about women needing to find 'a man who's a union man and join the ladies auxiliary' There's no pleasing some folk.
