The Sundays

Here's Where The Story Ends (1990)

Straight Outta Bristol (University)!!

It's Sunday, so it's The Sundays! I've been listening to The Sunday's rather a lot lately - I'd actually forgotten how good they were. This is the 'big hit' single from their first album, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic (1990), which seemed to herald a big-time coming for the group formed by Harriet Wheeler (vocals) and David Gavurin (guitar) whilst they were students at Bristol University. Obviously indebted to The Smiths and other similar 'indie' groups that populated the world through the 80's, they stood out for their intelligent, sharp song-writing and Wheeler's attractive and inventive vocals. Two more very good albums followed at a slow pace through the decade but the call to real stardom never came and Wheeler and Gavurin seemed to have settle for a domesticated life of child raising with only the occasional peek over the parapet of the music world. Come back - you're missed.

SB, I'm so ashamed to admit, I'd never heard this original and far superior version. Thanks for the education. I prefer its more subtle chilledness with Wheeler's vocals! Very Smith's guitar too.

Shell Hunter: They did some fine stuff. Yeah, the Tin Tin Out version is embarrassing. Shouldn't have been allowed. Thanks for the support.
